Loving the Wife God Gave Me
Marriage is one of God’s most precious gifts. It is more than sharing a home, raising a family, or walking through the ordinary routines of life together. Marriage is a sacred covenant in which a husband and wife learn to love, forgive, serve, encourage, and remain faithful through every changing season.
When I think about my wife, April, my heart is filled with gratitude. I love her deeply, and I care about her more than words can properly express. She is not only my wife, but also my closest companion, my faithful friend, and one of the greatest blessings God has placed in my life.
April is a wonderful and godly woman. She loves the Lord sincerely, and that love is seen in the way she lives, cares for her family, and gives herself to others. Her faith is not merely something she speaks about; it is woven into who she is. I have watched her trust God in joyful seasons and remain faithful during difficult ones. Her love for Christ has strengthened our home and encouraged my own walk with the Lord.
The Bible commands husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church. That is a love that sacrifices. It listens when listening is needed. It stays close when the road becomes difficult. It protects, comforts, prays, forgives, and seeks the good of the one who is loved. Christ did not love the church only when it was convenient. He gave Himself completely.
Loving my wife means that I should never take her presence for granted. Familiarity can sometimes cause us to overlook the blessings standing closest to us. Yet every day with the person God has given us is a gift. Love should be spoken, demonstrated, and renewed continually.
There have been mountaintops and valleys, laughter and tears, easy days and difficult days, but through them all, God has been faithful. One of the ways He has shown His goodness to me is through the wife He gave me. I do not simply love April for everything she does. I love her for who she is—the woman God created her to be.
A godly marriage does not happen accidentally. It is built through prayer, patience, humility, forgiveness, and daily acts of love. A husband should seek to make his wife feel safe, valued, respected, and cherished. He should remind her that she is not carrying life’s burdens alone. He is beside her, and more importantly, the Lord is with them both.
The longer I walk through life with April, the more I realize what a gift she truly is. My prayer is that I will love her more faithfully with every passing year, cherish her more deeply, and reflect more clearly the sacrificial love of Christ within our marriage.
Take time today to tell your spouse specifically why you love and appreciate them. Do not assume they already know. Speak the words. Pray for them, listen to their heart, and look for a practical way to demonstrate your love.
